Create28: Cape

Every once in awhile you have to branch out and try something new!  And what better time to do it than during Create28: Fall Looks!?  Late this summer, I noticed that capes and ponchos were hitting fall style line-ups.  Given my love for oversized cardigans, it was just a small (fringy) leap for me to fall for a warm, cozy cape!  Knowing that this was a look I wanted to try, I bought this beautiful reversible one from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (my first #NSale purchase ever)!

But then I got it aaaannnnnddddd I didn't know what to do with it!  So what's a clueless cape owner to do?  Consult Pinterest of course!  You can check out my board devoted entirely to capes here or the pin that inspired this look here!

I don't know about those model-looking girls on Pinterest, but I don't think this is an indoor, all day kind of an outfit.  It was very, very warm!  So heading further into the fall, I think I'm going to wear the cape in lieu of a jacket.  And next time I can't wait to wear it with the beautiful grey side facing out!

Have you tried a cape or a poncho this season?  Show us on Instagram (#Create28FallLooks) and make sure to come back tomorrow to see how Casey styles a skirt for fall!

Create28: Mocassins

I have a confession to make.  Boots and booties are not my favorite fall footwear.  Gasp, I know, what kind of personal style blogger am I?

While I love my cognac riding boots and have multiple pairs of suede booties sitting in my closet, moccasins are my favorite cozy shoes to slip into on a casual fall day!  There is something so effortlessly cool about a pair of moccasins.  They state, "this is who I am, I'm comfy and that's all that matters!"

Despite the inherent chicness of a pair of moccasins, their best feature is that they are so darn comfortable!  Who doesn't want to wear a pair of shoes that feel like slippers?  This fall, a stretchy pair of skinnies, a soft sweater and a vest make for the perfect, comfy Saturday uniform (yes, I know it's Tuesday but I took these pictures on Saturday #truthfulblogger).  By the way, this sweater (which might just be my favorite piece this fall) is on super sale in several different colors.  I want one of each, please!

After years of wearing moccasins purchased from Target, I decided it was time to step it up and buy some good-quality moccasins (I did love my Target pair but I wore them until they ripped last year).  I recently invested in a pair from Minnetonka and I couldn't be happier!  Have you checked-out Minnetonka before?  Not only do they have classic moccasins but they have some really fun colors and designs, too (I'm eyeing you, hot pink pair).  And if I can't convince you to step out of your boots, you could wear a pair of moccasin boots!  Here are some of my favorites!

Do you love moccasins as much as I do?  Share your love on Insta (#Create28FallLooks) and by linking-up on Monday.  I also hope that you'll stop back tomorrow because Casey will be sharing a look featuring falls hottest denim trend: flares!

Create28: Plaid

Did you know that today is Plaidurday?  Are you wearing your plaid?

I received this cozy buffalo plaid jacket in one of my Le Tote deliveries in early September.  For weeks it was too warm to even think about wearing a jacket, but I kept my Le Tote anyways because I just had to wear the jacket before I returned my goods and received another special delivery.

While I awaited the cool, crisp morning that meant I could break-out this jacket, I thought through so many outfit options.  I ultimately decided that pairing buffalo plaid with stripes is a perfect combination of classic yet creative.

What is your favorite way to wear plaid?  With stripes and booties like me?  As a scarf?  Perhaps a plaid shirtdress?  Maybe you've checked-out Adam Lippes for Target?  In any case, show us what you've got on Insta (#Create28FallLooks) and make sure to link-up on Monday.  Here are some more plaid looks that I'm loving for fall!

I hope you'll come back tomorrow to see how Casey styles a fall tunic!

Create28: A Batter Up Baseball Look

One of my favorite things to do on a sunny, summer afternoon is sit back, relax and enjoy a baseball game!  I grew-up attending games in Chicago with my family because my dad is a big Cubs fan.  While I'll still root for the Cubbies, I've grown into a fan of my home state's team, the Detroit Tigers! In any case, a few hours spent at the stadium with a hot dog (my favorite part) and a good game to watch make for the perfect summer afternoon in my book!

Obviously a tee supporting your favorite team and a pair of comfy shorts make for a perfect baseball-watching ensemble.  However, the cute clothes lover in me always wants to spice things up a bit!

One way to add interest to a simple "jeans and tee" outfit is to add a completer piece.  A completer piece can be a cardigan, blazer, denim jacket, vest or any other element beyond your top and bottoms.  You might be thinking, "Whitney, it's summer.  I do not want to be wearing a jacket!"  And you're right!  If it's too steamy outside to wear an extra layer, try tying it around your waist instead.  Or you could add a denim or cargo vest for a lighter option.

Another idea for creating a more interesting baseball look is to work with color.  Maybe you have a skirt that is the perfect shade of Washington National's Red!  Pair it with your tee!  Or perhaps you own a cardigan that really brings-out the orange in your Baltimore Oriole's gear, perfect!

My last tip in putting together your perfect baseball uniform is to add a pattern.  Patterns always add interest to an outfit.  You can work with neutrals (I bet those black and white striped shorts in your closet would look super cute) or the colors of your team!

For my Create28 Batter Up Baseball Look, I've followed each of these tips!  A navy and white gingham shirt worn open (so you can see my Tigers tee, of course) adds detail, color and pattern to my jeans and t-shirt.  You could replicate this look with jeans or shorts depending on the weather and I think that sneakers add the final sporty touch!

Who are you rooting for this summer and what are you going to wear to cheer them on?  Show us on Instagram (#create28summerlooks) and at our Monday link-up!  Also, check-out my Pinterest board for some more baseball inspiration!
